It was in December 2023 that Eve Gilles was elected Miss France for this year. Her haircut then caused debate, a Miss rarely having hair this short. Soon, in December, she will now have to give up her crown to make way for Miss France 2025. During an interview, she revealed that she suffered from a rare disease, called paroxysmal dyskinesia.
What is paroxysmal dyskinesia?
“I have this invisible illness, but for all that, I know how to live with it. And I live very well. When I was 8 years old, I felt that I did not control my body over certain movements,” explains Miss France 2024.
Paroxysmal dyskinesia is thus characterized by abnormal involuntary movements which are repeated episodically and last only a short time, according to orpha.net.
This serious, life-threatening illness is often associated with fatigue
“These are movements that I do not control for a certain period of time, it can be between 25 and 40 seconds. The intensity of the crisis can be more or less strong,” continues the young woman.
If the young woman has suffered from this disorder since childhood, she did not want to talk about it during the Miss election, nor during her reign. The reason? She didn’t want people to remember only that about her, that it defined her “as a woman and as a Miss”. She also assures that despite the crises, no one ever noticed it.
