Dozens of them gathered in New York to find the most resembling Timothée Chalamet. Amused by the event, the Hollywood actor decided to spend some time there…

Sunday afternoon, at Washington Square Park in New York, a whole crowd of young men with curly hair and angular facial features gathered for a very special occasion: a competition to find a Timothée Chalamet lookalike. What started as a simple, fun project by American YouTuber Anthony Po quickly gained momentum when New Yorkers had fun relaying the poster online and in the press with all the seriousness it deserves.

For the coveted prize (50 dollars, a 1.80 meter trophy and a suitcase full of Halloween candy), dozens of young men paraded in front of an audience of curious people ready to judge their resemblance to Timothée Chalamet. Ultimately it was the one dressed as Willy Wonka, with his curly hair falling over his eyes and his high cheekbones who was named the big winner. “I already called my mother to tell her. She told me she knew I would win,” he told “GQ.”

Timothée Chalamet arrives at the competition

Despite the excitement around the event, no one expected that the Hollywood star would take the time to take a look at the competition… And yet. While two candidates posed for the few photographers present on site, the real Timothée Chalamet invited himself to the festivities. On an amateur video, we see the “Dune” star wrapping his arm around his “lookalike”: “Hey man, what’s up? », he says.

It takes a few seconds for the young man and the rest of the crowd to understand that this person is not just a very good Timothée Chalamet lookalike, but Timothée Chalamet himself. The actor caused the riot for a minute before being escorted to his car by his bodyguards, according to “GQ”.

Adored in New York, his hometown, Timothée Chalamet had obviously heard of the event. Two weeks ago, a photo relayed online showed him passing, smiling, in front of the competition poster while he was filming the film “Marty Supreme” in the Lower Manhattan district.

Between the enthusiasm for this unique event and the surprise arrival of the “Dune” star, the authorities had to intervene to disperse the crowd, gathered without a permit. On site, and faced with the euphoria of dozens of Timothée Chalamets, the police even made arrests. According to one video, as one of the lookalikes is handcuffed, the crowd ironically shouts, “Free Timmy!” “. The organizer of the competition left with a fine of 500 dollars (i.e. ten times the prize awarded to the winner…).
