Behind the collection, the story of a surrealist encounter. After having discussed, without knowing it, with the street artist Banksy, the street artist François Bernardino, alias Béru, began to collect works and objects around the artist whose identity is still unknown, despite his worldwide fame. This is how the Banksy Modest Exhibition (BME), a solidarity exhibition allowing you to discover the journey and commitments of the Banksy myth. Traveling from city to city, the collection will be installed from Saturday May 11, 2024 at Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis), for fifteen days.

A committed work accessible to all

Screen prints, posters, leaflets, stickers, derived objects… The public will be able to discover more 200 objects, accumulated by Béru, after his impromptu meeting: “In 2007, I went to London for a street show. At the end of our performance, a guy approaches to chat and we start to get along. He invites me to visit his workshop where we spend the evening. He gives me two drawings with which I return to Paris. A few months later, at a friend’s house, I discovered the book “Wall and Piece” by Banksy and I then understood who I had met,” says the collector on the BME website.

For its 12th edition, the event is taking place in Seine-Saint-Denis. The scenography, created by Béru, aims to reveal the underside of a activist work. “Each text, each image has a meaning intended to make us reflect on the absurdity of the world around us, on our mode of consumption, our relationship to the animal world, to others, to war, to pollution…”

Without a direct link with Banksy, the BMC did not “ not been denounced » by the latter, “as he does when his art is used for commercial purposes”, specify the organizers. Entrance is free, with access to culture being a pillar of this diverse collection. It is possible to participate freely, with the profits being donated to local partner associations.
