Bordeaux will host the 8th edition of the “Nouveau Festival” on May 15 and 16. This meeting, organized by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, will highlight young artists, high school students or apprentices. Six groups from Haute-Vienne and Creuse will participate, and they are closely monitored during their preparation.

This Ascension Thursday, no bridge for the “Staprem Collectif” group. They are high school students at La Souterraine, have been playing together for 3 years, and they were selected to participate in the Nouveau Festival, a regional festival dedicated to young talents.

In a few days, they will perform in Bordeaux. So they prepare and discover a real scene for the first time, that of the Yves Furet cultural center. A useful moment for Abel Souchaud, the guitarist: “It’s a mixture of apprehension and excitement (…). It allows us to have the equipment, the space, and even the speakers that we cannot have at hand…”

To familiarize themselves with this new environment, the young group is accompanied by a professional musician, accustomed to major tours: Jérémy Cantin-Gaucher, the drummer of the group 7 Weeks. He draws on his experience to “advise them on how to adjust the sound, tell them “be careful, it might not sound like usual”… Prepare them as little as possible, even if the best preparation is the fact that they do it… “

This training is orchestrated by the Hiero federation. The Limousine association, which works to develop current music, is a partner of the festival. Jérémy Galliot details: “If we support these young people, it is for this springboard, but it is also because we want them to have within them this fiber of making music. We hope to find them later at the Hiero federation , because they want to have advice, or to play the first part.”

For the group’s drummer, Lou Andrieux, the pressure is mounting, but she keeps the essentials in mind: “It’s a bit impressive, it’s big and you can see that it’s professional… But after all, music is above all something that we love to do. From the moment we start playing, there is no more stress, it is replaced by adrenaline, because we just have fun when we play.”

The high school students will share this pleasure with other young artists on May 15 and 16 on the main stage of the Rocher de Palmer.
