After forty years of an uninterrupted career and fifty million albums sold, the Pet Shop Boys, the most popular duo in British pop, return with “Nonetheless” released on April 26. A fifteenth album reflecting their career, with incredible consistency.
2024 marks the forty-year career of Pet Shop Boys. It was in 1984 that “West End Girls”, their first single, was released. To mark the occasion, the British electro-pop-house-new wave duo releases “Nonetheless”, a fifteenth album faithful to the melodic, popular and danceable electronic style of their debut.
We find the sound of the prosperous years of the duo composed of Neil Tennant, 69 years old, on vocals, and Chris Lowe, 64 years old, on synthesizer. They nevertheless update their electro with the sounds of the moment and at the same time take the opposite view with the acoustics of the strings, in cinematographic orchestrations.
Follow their own instinct
The British duo’s secret is to never try to be cool, but to follow your own instincts. As usual, in “Nonetheless” we discover stories tinged with humor and drama, such as those of faded stars trying to return to the stage, or the defection from Soviet Russia of ballet icon Rudolf Nureyev.

In the song “New London Boy”, the duo recounts the glam rock youth of singer Neil Tennant, wandering the streets of London in David Bowie-style platform shoes, experimenting with bisexuality in a violent society towards the community queer.
Produced by James Ford, the usual producer of the Arctic Monkeys and the latest opus of Depeche Mode, “Nonetheless” is an almost flawless fifteenth album, like the previous ones and the incredibly consistent career of the Pet Shop Boys .
