This year, France is betting on Slimane. During the semi-finals, the French candidate was already able to perform his song “Mon amour” a cappela on the Swedish stage of Eurovision 2024.

It was in a cloud of smoke, arms outstretched towards the audience, that Slimane sang his song My love on the big stage of Eurovision 2024 which takes place in Malmö, Sweden this year. During the second semi-final of the competition this Thursday, May 9, the French candidate performed his song a cappella, in a vaporous white outfit.

“I love you, I don’t know why. I’m playing here,” he told the crowd with emotion.

France, directly qualified for the final of the European singing competition scheduled for Saturday May 11, is not participating in these semi-finals. But the French candidate has the opportunity to perform his title in live conditions for the first time, just like the five other countries already automatically selected for the final, namely Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany , Italy and Spain.

“A song that resembles him”

A little earlier this Thursday, the artist told BFMTV that he had “tried to make a song that resembles (him).”

“I am aiming for the place of pride, I want to be proud of myself, of my team, of what will remain, of the video that I will show to my daughter when she grows up,” he declared again.

Slimane, who began to make a name for himself in France by winning the talent show The Voice on TF1 in 2016, is now well established in the French musical landscape. The artist can boast of prominent titles: more than 40 million plays for Thousands of I love you, one of his hits, on Spotify, market leader in music streaming. During his duo with the singer Vitaa, who is also now performing solo, he even topped the album sales ranking in France in 2020 with their opus Versus.

France has not won Eurovision since Marie Myriam in 1977. In recent history, since the great performance of Barbara Pravi, who finished 2nd in 2021, France has been disillusioned. Alvan & Ahez, emerging artists like her from the vote of a jury and the public, in use in recent years in France, finished penultimate in 2022.
