The Rugl’Art Festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. An anniversary which serves as the theme for the 2024 edition which will be held from July 6 to October 1.

It is also an opportunity to go back in time to recall the summers where we were able to admire frescoes and giant photos which were displayed in the town center of Rugles (Eure) and which brought color to the daily life of the people of Rugles.

Portraits of ruglois in the street

Saturday July 12, 2014 marks the launch of the Rugl’Art Festival. “An event that is intended to be family-friendly, festive, friendly and with a touch of madness,” as the organizers summarize it. For the mayor, Denis Guitton “the objective is to offer a quality cultural and friendly event during the summer period that is accessible to all.”

Share your passion for the “Gens d’ici” exhibition

Residents of Rugles and surrounding areas are invited to share their passion for the next edition of the festival.
The Gens d’ici exhibition aims to showcase local talents and hobbies, whether it be DIY, gardening, collections, embroidery, music, painting, writing, crafts, astronomy, beekeeping or others.
Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to get in touch via private message to arrange a photoshoot that will capture the essence of their passion. These photographs will be at the heart of the Gens d’ici exhibition.

The city and the CAR (Ruglois entertainment committee) have chosen to place this 1D edition under the sign of photography and left to the two lens professionals of the Visions de Campagne association, Bruno Compagnon And Patrick Forget, the care of putting their project into execution. The objective is to transform the face of the city by bringing the photo into the street.

A success as evidenced by the almost unanimous reactions to the giant portraits of Ruglois displayed on the city walls all summer. For the portraits, the two photographers took advantage of the Union Commerciale flea market which was held on June 22 to meet as many residents as possible.

We asked them if they would like to pose and explained to them the why and how, more than 137 people agreed to play the game and signed without any problem. We had 200 m2 at our disposal in the city center and it is obvious that we could not take more portraits, we had to make choices.

Exhibitions, shows and concerts

In addition to the smiles of the “People from here”, there were exhibitions on different themes in the ground floor room of the old town hall, at the tourism center and in the shops. Without forgetting the old postcards in giant format which have replaced the “trompe l’oeil” on certain abandoned storefronts in the city center.

“It’s a great idea and shows that contrary to what we sometimes hear, there is always something new happening in Rugles,” confided a resident.

For the launch of this first edition, there were street shows in the afternoon. The sun having “absented without a word of apology”, the musicians of the jojo band and the Trom’plein duo brought cheerfulness into the air.

At the end of the day, the aperitif concert given in Mitterand Park by “Les Mégots” ignited fans of good “daddy rock”. Then 350 guests joined the village hall to share in the greatest good humor the republican banquet, a buffet whose preparation had been entrusted to the traders of Ruge.
