Amiens: the Etoile du Sud shines again in the neighborhood

Around a hundred people responded to the invitation from L’Étoile du Sud. The cultural center of the Val d’Avre district has scheduled the opening of its latest exhibition this Saturday, October 5, 2024, entitled “Les Toiles du Sud”. Sector stakeholders, school directors, association and neighborhood committee leaders were there.

The city’s elected officials also came in large numbers to validate the work undertaken by the new director, Sené Mirette. “ I welcome the remobilization of an enthusiastic team serving the cultural activities of the region », appreciated Alain Gest, president of Amiens Métropole. “ More than a cultural center, Étoile du Sud constitutes the beacon of urban cultures in Amiens », added Brigitte Fouré, mayor of the city. There’s nothing like going back to basics to launch a renaissance.

Sené Mirette has entrusted the management of the collective exhibition Les Toiles du Sud to the artist from Amiens, Kofoh. “ The challenge was to bring together relatives who were not used to presenting their works in a formal exhibition space », savors the street artist. For the first time, Étoile du Sud is including its programming as part of the IC.ON.IC visual arts festival. The graffiti of the renowned Dystur and Lars joined those of Kofoh on the walls of the center. Creez, for his part, worked to develop a work measuring 14 meters by 3.50 m on the wall of the neighboring sports hall, which Alain Gest has confirmed will be renovated soon. “ I am delighted to see the mix of generations during this opening. This is the heart of our project », concluded Sené Mirette.

Les Toiles du Sud exhibition on display until 09.11 – Étoile du Sud cultural center 121 Rue Simone Signoret – 03 22 22 13 80
