Laury Thilleman, burned cars and Europe: Hello Brest!

Hello everyone ! Wide awake? How are you doing this Thursday, May 9, 2024, Ascension Day? On this second consecutive public holiday, we celebrate the Pacôme and the birthdays of singer Billy Joel (75 years old), athlete Marie-José Pérec (55 years old), American actor Noah Centineo (27 years old) and the French actor Sagamore Stévenin (50 years old).

On another note, May 9 is the official Europe Day. This date commemorates Robert Schuman’s declaration in 1950 and the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community, the beginnings of the European Union. The opportunity also to recall the next European elections, on June 9, to elect the 81 French MEPs.

After the Crouton Fair yesterday, Place Guérin is hosting the Crout Fair from today until May 11, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Nearly 10,000 people are expected for this 33rd edition which will bring together 150 exhibitors. Also, the duo Poilu will perform at 12:30 p.m.

Today’s weather: getting hotter and hotter

Real-time traffic: is it the holidays?

Traffic in Brest, thanks to the two public holidays and the Ascension Bridge, is very fluid. So much the better for those who have to work! On the other hand, you will have to be careful: from Monday May 13, work on the second Bouguen bridge, parallel to the Schuman bridge, begins. Place Albert-Ier, the roadway will be narrowed, and rue du Moulin-à-Poudre, a temporary lane will be created to bypass the work.

Sentence of the day

We’re more than fed up

Around ten cars were burned during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, around 3 a.m., in Brest, at the foot of the Kerbernard towers, near the Phare de l’Europe gallery. The residents can’t take it anymore. “This is not the first time that cars have burned down in the area,” laments a resident. Even the city’s closed, paid parking lot was the target of arsonists.” [La vidéo de Didier Déniel]
