Readings, rewards, emotions… The 13th edition of the Littér’Halles Days in Decize

The Théodore-Gérard room in Decize welcomed reading enthusiasts throughout the weekend. Sunday May 5, emotion was at its height with the presentation of the Littér’halles 2024 Prize, which went to Xavier Lhomme.

Organized by the Lire sous les Halles association, the Littér’Halles Days in Decize began on Friday May 3. An appetizer offered by actor Olivia Broda, who spoke for seven Réussir employees.

On Saturday May 4 afternoon, the village hall was once again full, for the award ceremony to the winners of the 28th amateur short story competition. The ten winners in the middle school categories (one hundred and twenty-six participants), high school students and adults were rewarded by members of the reading committees and representatives of the municipality.

The honorary president, Maryline Martin, literary journalist on a free Parisian radio station and author, read extracts from the award-winning short stories.

The evening ended with the words of Jules Renard: a gallery of burlesque and comical portraits drawn up by the highly applauded duo Histoire d’Amour.
Sunday, May 5 in the morning, the 13th Short Story and Short Forms Fair opened, in the presence of the mayor, Justine Guyot, who was very complimentary about this wonderful literary event, which has become a must in Decize.

Xavier Lhomme wins the Littér’Halles Prize

The seven finalists were quietly awaiting the verdict… Time to remember that twenty-two collections were received this year, read by the hundred members of the reading committees of Lire sous les Halles, who had to select seven finalists. After the presentation of each of the seven collections, the time for the verdict has finally arrived. It’s Xavier Lhomme, for his book In the guts and other little stories from the Great Warwho leaves with a double award: the Maurice-Genevoix high school students’ prize and the Littér’Halles prize from the City of Decize.

A winner who had a hard time hiding his emotion. Françoise Guérin, winner in 2023, presented him with her trophy, a piece of driftwood from the Loire on which now appears the name of Xavier Lhomme, thirteenth winner of the prize.
In the afternoon, Maryline Martin gave a presentation of her biography on Louise Weber, aka La Goulue, Queen of the Moulin Rouge. A sensitive and lively evocation which fascinated the audience.

The twelve people (mostly high school students) who came to discover the writing workshop, led by Françoise Guérin, also had a great time.
Lovely moments, meetings, exchanges… That’s all, the Littér’Halles Days, and this edition will be no exception to the rule.
