The Jazz au Chellah festival returns to Rabat from May 10 to 12 – Telquel.ma

LThe event will feature European and Moroccan artists who will perform at the historic site of Chellah, offering music lovers an experience that transcends borders, according to a press release from the EU Delegation to Morocco.

This year, the festival coincides with Europe Day celebrated on May 9. Artistic and cultural meetings aim to promote the diversity of artistic expressions as a universal language of emotion, sharing and peace.

The EU Ambassador to Morocco, Patricia Llombart Cussac, underlines the importance of music as a vector of dialogue between people and as an illustration of the richness of diversity. “The harmony and the precious moments of union within this festival — which is intended to be an ode to the fusion between European jazz and Moroccan music — indeed admirably embody the partnership between Morocco and the European Union, in particular in its human and cultural dimensions”she said.

The program includes various concerts, notably that of the German trumpeter Markus Stockhausen accompanied by the musician and poet Aziz Sahmaoui, as well as a performance bringing together the French group Sarab and the qanoun player Hiba Mekkaoui.

Other musical encounters are planned, such as that between the Spanish pianist Daniel Garcia and the oud player Driss El Maloumi, as well as the performance of the Munsch Trio with the Moroccan group Urban Folklore.

Masterclasses will also be organized for musicians and singers, led by professionals such as Climène Zarkan, Aziz Sahmaoui and Adrien Lambinet.

The festival will not be limited to stage performances, but will also offer a strolling concert in the streets of Rabat, proposed by the group Salt, merging various jazz styles in a joyful atmosphere.
