The 86th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest (ECC) will take place from May 7 to 11. On the occasion of the launch of the largest international music competition, Play Suisse, the SSR’s streaming platform, is dedicating a special collection to it. The latter, to be discovered from May 8, will include showcases and documentaries from the current and previous editions.

What do Celine Dion, ABBA and Nemo have in common? Everyone took part in the Eurovision Song Contest. On the occasion of the launch of the 2024 edition, Play Suisse invites you to follow the musical journey of some musicians, notably Céline Dion, Nemo, ABBA, Remo Forrer and Marius Bear, through a selection of showcases and documentaries .

Representative of Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest

In 1998, the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin marked the debut of world star Celine Dion. With her song “Ne partez pas sans moi”, the Canadian singer won the victory for Switzerland. The documentary “The Perfect Note: Céline Dion’s Swiss Adventure”, by Noël Tortajada and Vincent Gonon, makes us relive the emotions of the final and also shows the intense relationship between Céline Dion and her manager, René Angélil, who would become more late her husband.

Also competing for Switzerland were Marius Bear in 2022 with “Boys do cry” and Remo Forrer in 2023 with “Watergun”. This year, it’s Nemo’s turn with “The Code”. In intimate and emotional showcases, Swiss musical talents tell their story and perform some of the most memorable songs from their musical journey.

50th anniversary of ABBA’s CEC victory

With their song “Waterloo”, the Swedish pop group ABBA won Eurovision in 1974 in Brighton. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory of the four Swedes, James Rogan traces the story behind their music, in the new documentary “ABBA, behind the scenes behind the legend”.

Nearly four decades after ABBA disbanded, their songs are still unique and continue to thrill old and new fans alike. And the Swiss music scene is not left out: in the “Take A Chance” showcase, well-known Swiss artists such as Fabienne Louves, Steiner & Madlaina and Nic Maeder perform ABBA songs and thus present their own versions of the Swedish hits.

A dedicated collection on Play Suisse

The complete collection of six tracks “The Eurovision Song Contest madness” will be available on Play Suisse from May 8 at 12:00 p.m. All documentaries and showcases are available in the original language with subtitles in French, German and Italian. In addition to the new collection, many musical highlights can be discovered on Play Suisse.
