Iris Van Herpen’s futuristic fashion in Paris
With more than 370,780 visitors, the phantasmagorical world of Iris van Herpen will have visibly met its Parisian audience. Organized from November 29, 2023 to April 28, 2024, the event was indeed one of the museum’s records in terms of attendance, stimulated in particular by the establishment of additional nights on weekends in addition to the Late opening offered every Thursday.
Under the curative commission of Cloé Pitiot and Louise Curtis, Iris van Herpen. Sculpting the Senses presented around a hundred haute couture pieces distributed within thematic spaces providing an overview of the aesthetics and techniques specific to the work of the Dutch designer.
Having worked in particular at the Maison Alexander McQueen and at the head of her own fashion label since 2007, Iris van Herpen has become known for the use of innovative materials and the application of avant-garde technologies including printing. 3D.
Popular with artists like Björk and Lady Gaga for their stage outfits, her sculptural and organic pieces aim to question the perception of the human body and the links that unite fashion with science, art, but also nature, the designer’s main Source of inspiration. As part of this exhibition, the futuristic creations of Iris van Herpen were also presented within a journey integrating multidisciplinary contemporary works as well as elements from natural sciences such as fossils and corals.
Following its presentation in Paris, Iris van Herpen. Sculpting the Senses will be traveling around the world over the next few months. The exhibition will be visible from June 2024 at the Queensland Art Gallery – Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia.
