Artus did a lot of promotion for his film A little something extra. What an era! – where an exchange with Léa Salamé on alcohol caused a lot of noise, Looking forward to Sunday, Daily, Good morning !…in all these shows, the comedian wanted to talk about his project that he is producing and in which he is starring. A film that is particularly close to his heart and which attracts crowds.
A little something extra it’s the story of a son and his father on the run who are forced, to escape the police, to find refuge in a summer camp for young adults with disabilities. Artus and Clovis Cornillac therefore pose in the film as a resident and his specialized educator. This is where the troubles begin but also a wonderful human experience that will change them forever. For this project, Artus explained, he wanted to hire actors who are truly disabled. A choice which, in each of his interviews, was praised.
The film was released on May 1, 2024 and now it’s a hit. This indeed had an exceptional start at the French box office with 280,000 admissions on its first day according to the specialist site Boxofficepro. The latter even specifies: “This is quite simply one of the biggest opening days of all time for a French comedy, behind the 558,000 admissions of Welcome to the Ch’tis (2008), but far ahead Untouchables (2011) or even What have we done to the good Lord? (2014), which both had around 200,000 admissions on the day of their release.“And to specify:”The performance is all the more remarkable as the film, distributed by the independent Pan Distribution, is released in a rather modest number of theaters of 470 cinemas, a far cry from the 700 or even 800 theaters of major Hollywood productions. Many downtown theaters did not show the film on its opening day.”
On Instagram, the comedian reacted. “PHE-NO-MÉ-NAL! Thank you all“, he wrote in the caption of the film poster which reads: “280,000 entries, thank you.“
Artus can’t believe the success of Ce p’tit truc en plus
During his various interviews, Artus’ interviewers had all told him that his film was going to be a great success as the previews attracted so many people. This project actually received a very good reception even before its theatrical release. However, Artus still can’t believe it.
Wednesday evening, he had also shared his surprise by story from his Instagram account: “It’s completely crazy what’s happening around the film, you’re blowing up the counters. I don’t realize, I’m on cloud nine. Thank you for them, thank you for everything. I hope the film continues to be popular. (…) I don’t even know what to say actually.“Then, this Thursday, he intervened again:”It’s crazy, 280,000 on the first day, there were sellouts in certain cinemas, you were rejected. I want to shout in the street, to hug everyone. Life is beautiful. I love you.”
A success which should continue and will perhaps break other records!
