A quarter of a century! It’s enormous and at the same time, taken on the scale of the history of humanity, it’s peanuts! The important thing in all cases is to fill the space and time well. And on this side, the four musicians of Ultra Vomit did not pull out all the stops. Hundreds of concerts all over France and around, clips recording millions of views, tens of thousands of followers on social networks, four albums to date including one certified gold… and always a huge dose of schoolboy humor.

For those returning from an interplanetary journey of several thousand light years, Ultra Vomit is it…

Following the release of his fourth opus, The Power of Powerfrom which this title is taken Metal fingers, the group invited their Nantes fans to meet them at Le Ferrailleur. No concert, but a loop of listening to the album, signings, laughs and an interview for France 3 .

At the microphone, the specialist rock journalist Samuel Degasne, behind the scenes, the master of the ceremony Stéphane Hérel, and in the spotlight the four musicians, Manard, Fetus, Flockos and Matthieu, ready to answer our questions about this new album which they summarize as follows on their promotional material: 17 titles, including 16 hits and 1 dung”.

With a first question about the place that welcomes us, Le Ferrailleur, a place of some importance for the group.

We are here at the Ferrailleur…”, explains Flockos, “at the Banana Hangar in Nantes, and the boss du Ferrailleur is none other than Thomasson (aka Thomas Nedelec, editor’s note)”.

“Thomasson is none other than the original sound engineer of Ultra Vomit…”, resumes Fetus“this is the first, forever the first. We worked together at the beginning, each one later did their own thing, they did it visibly well, and we are very proud to be here, because the Scrap Dealer has become an institution in Nantes, but not only in Nantes, I would say in France, in the whole world, so very proud of what he managed to do. And let’s go!

A friendly place, known and recognized in the rock world, a long-time friend of the owner… Enough to gain some confidences. Starting with Fetus, son of doctors, a clear path… well almost!

When I was in primary school, when people asked me what do you want to do when you grow up, I would say something like: I don’t want to work. And my father, that worried him a lot. He said there was a problem, I wasn’t necessarily wired in the same way”.

Should we see rebellion in becoming an artist rather than a doctor?

“Am I an artist yet?”asks Fetus. “You were chosen, it was art that chose you”, retorts Manard.

“I’m really not comfortable with the term artist…”continues Flockos, “jI feel 100% a musician, I make music, there is no doubt about it, but an artist, frankly, I find that it does not lend itself to Ultra Vomit, I find that it does not lend itself to it for rock’n’roll…”.

Mon father bought me the first drum set and I can say that for two years it was a little hard for them

Manard

Ultra Vomit Drummer

And the parents? What might their reactions have been?

“LMy people rather encouraged me…”confides Manard, “I come from a family where there are no musicians at all, so I came to music on my own. But I was pretty good at school so they didn’t have much reason to worry. JI started playing drums at around 14 years old. My father bought me the first drum set and I can say that for two years it was a little hard for them because my drums were in my room, an acoustic drums Obviously, without any utensils to dampen the sound, it was really rough. And for two years, every Saturday, they had to leave the house for four hours because that it was unbearable. So no, I was pretty lucky in that regard.”.

I never chose music as a career, on the other hand I have always done so that I can make music.

Flockos

Bassist of Ultra Vomit

For Flockos, no problem either. “I have always put off choosing an active life until later.until finally Ultra Vomit was able to give me a salary. In truth, I never chose music as a career, on the other hand, I have always done so that I can make music. There was a guitar at home, my older brother started teaching me Metallica when I was nine years old and I followed my big brother to the hilt.”

If Ultra Vomit now offers a salary to its four members, some still keep a job on the side, like Manard. Should we see the same philosophy as Didier Wampas who forced to keep a job to have your feet on the ground?

“Ohave all lived the first intermittent and it’s a bit hard. Et it can stop overnight, it actually stopped overnight. And there, I started doing jobs, let’s say difficult, temporary work and all that. JI had the opportunity to retrain in the development profession, and as a result, I didn’t have I don’t want to throw all that away today, even if the group is more sustainable today, we will say.

Since 2017, Flockos has not drunk a drop of alcohol and he does not hesitate to talk about it. “JI haven’t drunk alcohol since 2017, now it’s 2024, if I die at 85-87 years old, I think I would have taken the same share as everyone else, you see what do I mean? I would have drunk like everyone else, it’s just that I put everything in the first half, and in fact, we’re not going to lie, I got drunk for the recording of Panzer Surprise, and the next day I didn’t succeed playing guitar, I don’t consider myself an alcoholic, but I got drunk at the wrong time, I didn’t know how to stop in this evening which was nice where I I really resented it.”

And the album in all this? 17 titles, including 16 hits and 1 dung”Really ? Certainly an album with enormous sound and devastating humor. As always? Like never before! In the interview they gave us, the four musicians look back on the tracks that make up the album with many anecdotes and a good layer of humor à la Ultra Vomit…
