Faced with warnings from specialists about the harmful effects of overexposure to screens on the development of children, , with its offering of youth podcasts with more than 100 million listeners, is launching a podcast creation competition for CM2 classes, in partnership with Belin Education and with the support of the MAE.
While the scientific committee on the regulation of the use of screens among children must soon submit its report, this initiative is part of the overall approach undertaken by Radio France to raise awareness and educate young people to listen.

►►► “The of Odysseys”, carried by Laure Grandbesançon and his team, is a educational project which starts in September 2024 and extends over the entire school yearin which students are invited to discover a historical character and imagine their podcast.

In addition to making them aware of listening and understanding through audio, this project wants allow children to develop different skills : learn to concentrate, multiply and cross-reference your sources to guarantee the veracity of historical facts, use your knowledge to write a story (with an introduction, a development, dialogues, a conclusion), develop your creativity (by imagining soundscapes , characters), learn to work in a team…

To support them in this project, teachers and participating classes will be invited to follow three webinars, led by Laure Grandbesançon and his team via a dedicated platform accessible on franceinter.fr: a workshop to discover the Odysseys and present the competition, and two working sessions around the creation of a podcast. around writing, screenwriting and narration. The other around sound effects, acting and production.

An editorial team from France Inter will study the final projects of each class (consisting of a written piece of 1,500 words and a free audio of one to two minutes) and will designate the winner in June 2025.

The winning class will participate in the recording and mixing of their podcast with Laure Grandbesançon in the channel’s studios and will see its story integrated throughout the Odysseys on the Radio France application and the franceinter.fr website.

In parallel, Belin Educationin partnership with France Inter, offers a new school textbook: “ One podcast per week, 36 Odysseys of France Inter to work on understanding “. Thanks to turnkey courses, educational insights and activity sheets, the teacher will be able to build complete study times using podcasts. It will thus develop students’ listening and oral comprehension skills while introducing them to characters who have left their mark on History.
