Moroccan culinary art the spotlight Doha

Moroccan culinary art was the spotlight on Friday in Doha during a ceremony co-organized by the Jiwan restaurant and the La Mamounia Hotel in Marrakech, as part of the Year of Culture Qatar-Morocco 2024.

The Jiwan restaurant, located at the Museum of Qatar, welcomed a team of chefs led by Rachid Agouray, chef in charge of Moroccan cuisine at La Mamounia who meticulously designed a special menu inspired by the restaurant “Le Marocain”, the one of the four restaurants of this legendary hotel in the ocher city.

According to a renewed vision and a touch of modernity, Moroccan chefs have set about preparing fabulous traditional dishes and dishes including the traditional soup “Harira” served with dates and the famous Chebbakia, or the succulent chicken tagine with olives and candied lemon, without forgetting the couscous with vegetables and a range of the most beautiful cakes of Moroccan gastronomy.

In a statement to MAP, Mr. Agouray indicated that this three-day event aims to promote Moroccan gastronomic culture and to highlight both its richness and its diversity among specialists and various visitors to the Jiwan restaurant.

It is an invitation, he continued, to discover a variety of flavors that distinguish Moroccan culinary art. A world-renowned art which draws its authenticity from the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco, rich and varied like the diversity of its regions.

As for the Jiwan restaurant, according to the organizers, it embodies a mix of cultures, reflecting the cosmopolitan spirit of Doha, and whose menu highlights ingredients from neighboring regions as well as North Africa.

For his part, Yves Godard, Director of Operations at IN-Q Enterprises, commercial arm of Qatar Museums, said: “We are delighted to welcome the culinary team of La Mamounia to collaborate with the team of Jiwan. Our philosophy is to celebrate the flavors of neighboring countries and it is a joy to do so with Moroccan cuisine.”

Under the leadership of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the of Culture initiative is at the forefront of sustainable cultural partnerships between Qatar and other nations, said a statement from Qatar Museums.

Its aim is to foster respect and understanding between diverse cultures, while acting as a catalyst to bring people together, encourage connections, stimulate dialogue and deepen mutual understanding.

The organization of the Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024 is the result of a collaboration between leading institutions in Qatar and their partners in Morocco, with the support of the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, as well as the respective embassies of Qatar in Morocco and Morocco in Qatar.
