The day after her 18th birthday, Noémie Kreczman, originally from Engis, was suddenly struck by fate: following a medical examination, the young woman learned with amazement that she had lung cancer. It all started with a simple bronchitis last May…

“I failed to treat her and my condition quickly deteriorated,” she recalls. I started having difficulty breathing. When I walked too long or too fast, I quickly became out of breath. I got to the point where my girlfriend had to carry me back to school. »

Seeing that her condition is not improving, Noémie consults a pulmonologist who tells her terrible news. “It shocked me. I did not expect that. I’ve never had any breathing problems, I don’t drink or smoke. I had a hard time taking it. So young… When you’re 18, you think it can’t happen to you. Some doctors told me they had never known a cancer patient so young. »

“I remain optimistic…”

The Engissoise begins her first chemotherapy, before undergoing emergency surgery. “Some doctors thought I had no chance of survival… but I’m still here. I’m feeling better,” she told us in December.

Now 19 years old, Noémie feels rather weakened. “I had a relapse,” she regrets. “I immediately started new treatment with a new, more aggressive chemotherapy. Despite everything, I try to remain optimistic by focusing on the positive aspects of daily life. My girlfriend and I will soon be moving in together in Ombret. These are the things I hold on to that allow me to move forward. »

“She’s a fighter”

Jenny, her mother, is also fighting for her daughter’s recovery. Last December, she launched a fundraiser to finance her very expensive treatment. “We always sell quid, personalized pens and fondants. We also plan to organize flea markets and evenings to raise money in the coming months. »

And the mother adds: “My daughter is a fighter. She keeps her spirits up, despite losing her hair. We thank everyone who can help us in any way. »
