Rescue – Several people wanted to stay on board the boat, continuing their route to England

They were rescued early this Saturday morning, shortly after the start of a perilous crossing during which they risked their lives. Around fifty migrants who were trying to reach England were rescued this Saturday off the coast of Berck, in Pas-de-Calais. According to the occupants of the frail boat, one of the occupants had fallen into the water. Searches were carried out to find two possible missing persons, the maritime prefecture indicated in a press release.

The alert reached the Gris Nez regional operational surveillance and rescue centre (Cross). One of the migrants on board the boat alerted that a person had fallen into the water. A rescue operation was quickly launched. Four days ago, a shipwreck caused the death of at least twelve migrants in the Channel.

On Saturday, emergency services were able to intervene quickly and locate the person who had fallen into the water. Fifty-seven people on board the boat asked for help, but around fifteen “refused assistance” and “continued on their way under appropriate supervision” by emergency services, reported(…) - 20minutes
