Since January 20 and until February 24, parents of fifth grade students in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté middle schools, who would not have done so at the start of the 2024 school year, have the possibility of completing a parental authorization form for allow their children to benefit from free vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV).
The first dose can be administered in spring 2025, with the second dose scheduled for the following year (4th grade, spring 2026).
Why relaunch a campaign that took place in September?
To increase vaccination coverage for more than 32,000 targeted students in approximately 330 middle schools in the region.
Remember that this major prevention action aims for a vaccination coverage rate of 80% among girls and boys aged 11 to 14 by 2030.
An ambitious objective, linked to the challenges: vaccination against HPV, recommended by the High Authority of Health (HAS) for girls and boys aged 11 to 14, prevents up to 90% of infections at the origin cervical cancer in particular.
This campaign, financed by the ARS and Health Insurance, is carried out in collaboration with the academies of Besançon and Dijon, as well as the diocesan directorates of private education under contract.
Mobile teams from 10 vaccination centers
Mobile teams made up of doctors, midwives, nurses and pharmacists from the 10 regional vaccination centers are mobilized to ensure vaccinations in colleges.
An information webinar for school heads was held on January 17 under the aegis of the rectorates and the ARS. The information is relayed directly to colleges during the month of January.
-In addition to HPV vaccination, mobile teams can offer to update students’ vaccination status for other common vaccines.
The ARS Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and the rectorates encourage all parents to actively participate in this free middle school vaccination campaign to protect their children against papillomavirus infections and associated cancers.
Summary of the 2023-2024 Campaign
Increased vaccination coverage : During the first campaign, 5,475 young people were vaccinated in colleges in the region, with an increase of 20 points among girls (from 35% to 55%) and a similar increase among boys (from 24% to 43%) for at least one dose.
Vaccination a would : In addition to vaccinations carried out in colleges, 5,704 children aged 11 were vaccinated with at least one dose by health professionals in town, bringing the overall coverage rate of the age group to 35% as of December 31 2023.
