This week, I answer questions from a reader who wants to make changes in her daily life, but who doesn’t really know where to start. Here are some ideas to help you begin this wonderful journey!
And you, how are your new diet or training resolutions going? Everything is fine? Fantastic!
For those who have failed to maintain their good intentions, remember that you can start again at any time of the year! Even if your resolutions didn’t stick, it’s never too late to take back the reins and get back on the right foot. Sometimes all it takes is a different approach and better preparation.
The importance of doing an end-of-year review!
To achieve your goals, it is important to know where you are starting from, and taking an end-of-year review could well be the key step to starting 2025 with much more clarity and determination. And the starting point for moving in the right direction is to get rid of what no longer works for you. Take a few minutes to make a list of habits or behaviors that you no longer want in your routine.
For example, this could include:
– Habits that don’t benefit you, like spending too much time on your phone or staying up too late.
Habits that drain your energy, including unbalanced food choices, procrastinating, or saying “yes” to everything, even when it doesn’t suit you.
– Limiting thoughts, such as repeating to yourself: “I’m terrible at cooking” or “I’m not fit enough to start working out.”
– Identifying these obstacles is truly an act of liberation, because it allows you to become aware of what is holding you back, to detach yourself from it and to create the space necessary to welcome new constructive thoughts and positive habits.
Then, refocus on what you want to accomplish. What are your priorities for 2025? Make a list of goals that really matter to you. This can range from big aspirations, like taking charge of your health, to simpler, but equally important things, like spending more time with your family or yourself.
Be clear with your desires and write them down in black and white. These intentions will become your guideposts to navigate throughout the year with confidence and determination!
But ambition alone is not enough: we must also find concrete means to achieve it. Once you have defined your goals, break them down into necessary skills and then actionable actions.
For example, if you want to improve your health, this might include the following skills: preparing two meals in advance per week, getting 25 minutes of physical activity three times per week, and reducing distractions to sleep better.
Then, the idea is to transform these skills into simple, concrete and achievable steps (actions).
For example, to prepare your meals in advance, you could start by finding recipes while having coffee on Saturday morning, purchase the missing ingredients during your next grocery trip, then schedule a specific time during the week to cook these two meals .
For training, identify three specific times that fit well into your weekly routine and write them into your calendar. Then, keep this commitment as an important appointment.
Finally, to reduce distractions at bedtime, a simple solution would be to charge your phone in another room, like the kitchen, instead of keeping it on your nightstand.
By taking the time to take stock and plan your year, you give yourself every chance of starting 2025 with strength and confidence. Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight, but through small, consistent steps.
You have everything you need to get there. Just believe in yourself and take the first step today!.
Until next time!
