In , Point Ligue, a place dedicated to listening and support, offers essential support to cancer patients and their loved ones

Located in the premises of DAC 21, at 4 avenue Roger Duchet, Point Ligue is open every first Tuesday of the month. This place, designed to welcome patients and their families in complete confidentiality, is a bridge between daily life and illness. Marie- Bravard, head of League volunteers in , describes it as “ an open window to rebuild oneself, a space where patients can feel listened to and supported without judgment or infantilization ».
Véronique Bertrand, who runs these hotlines, emphasizes: “ It is a place where people can speak freely, far from hospital walls, with the aim of allowing patients to regain self-confidence and live better with their illness. ».

Complete and caring support
Le Point Ligue offers support from the announcement of the diagnosis and up to five years after treatment. Patients find:
-Listening and orientation: A first meeting allows us to discuss needs and propose suitable activities.
-Free oncological support care: This care, intended to improve the quality of life, includes sophrology sessions, well-being massages, nutritional advice, psychological support, beauty treatments, gentle gymnastics, aquagym or adapted walking.
-Cognitive rehabilitation with Oncogite: This innovative program, offered after chemotherapy, helps patients regain their cognitive abilities thanks to intensive video workshops.
These activities are accessible to all patients, without condition of resources, and recently opened to caregivers and children.
« Aesthetic treatments allow you to reclaim your body, to see it differently than through painexplains Marie-France Bravard. Physical activities offer a break to think about something other than the illness. » The sick person can choose up to three activities on medical advice validated by the volunteer doctor from La Ligue.
In 2024, around 400 people in Côte-d’Or, including 30 in Beaune, will have benefited from this care.

An essential commitment from volunteers
The Ligue de Beaune team has 12 volunteers, including 7 active, engaged in field missions. They also participate in awareness-raising actions such as Pink October, a key event to promote cancer prevention.
« Being a volunteer requires great listening and perspective-taking skills. It’s not always easy, but we feel useful », confides Marie-France Bravard. For Véronique Bertrand, who is in charge of the League point, these meetings are often marked by moving moments: “ We share a lot with the sick. This gives real meaning to our commitment ».
The Côte-d’Or League has around 50 volunteers, including 10 specifically trained in listening, a team which will soon be reinforced by a dozen people. This local network relies on the generosity of the public, donations making it possible to finance its numerous actions.

Valuable daily help
In addition to moral, psychological and emotional support, the League offers social support to ease the daily lives of patients. In 2024, around 150 financial aid files will have been processed in Côte-d’Or.
An annual envelope of €120,000 is dedicated to one-off aid, covering expenses such as school canteens, energy bills, and even taxes. Assistance of up to €800 per year is available, and specific cases, such as funeral costs, can also be covered up to €500.
« These aids provide tangible relief in difficult times », Specifies Véronique Rabier, director of the Departmental Committee.

Multiple missions to meet essential needs
The League Against Cancer relies entirely on the generosity of its donors. Each year, between €400,000 and €450,000 are collected thanks to contributions from members, of whom there are nearly 6,000 in Côte-d’Or. The League Against Cancer is based on three main missions:
1. Support patients and their families either from a social point of view or through free supportive care, such as sophrology, psychological support, aesthetic care or adapted physical activities.
2. Fund research: The League supports teams like that of Inserm in , specializing in leukemia.
3. Promote prevention and screening: Campaigns like Pink October or Blue Mars raise public awareness of the importance of regular checkups.

Prevention and screening at the heart of actions
The League Against Cancer also works to raise public awareness of screenings, which are essential for detecting cancers early. With campaigns like Mars Bleu, dedicated to colorectal cancer, or Pink October, focused on breast cancer, it mobilizes widely.
For Véronique Rabier: “ Our role is to take the drama out of screening. With a simple test, we can save lives. Today, 9 out of 10 cancers can be cured if detected in time ».
Despite everything, participation rates remain low: around 50% for breast cancer and only 30% for colorectal cancer in Côte-d’Or, well below the 70% necessary for optimal effectiveness.

Prospects and projects for 2025
The coming year will see the League continue its actions:
– Mars Bleu: With a flagship event in Longvic on March 21, to encourage colorectal screening.
– Partnership with Leclerc: A cash rounding operation to finance research into pediatric cancers.
– Sun prevention and human papillomavirus (or HPV: Human Papilloma Virus): Campaigns planned for June and July.
-Pink October: A health village project in Beaune is being considered to raise awareness among more people.

A message of hope and solidarity
The Point Ligue de Beaune is more than a welcoming place, it is a symbol of solidarity and collective commitment in the face of cancer. Thanks to the involvement of volunteers, it continues to offer a glimmer of hope to patients and their families, allowing them to get through this ordeal with dignity and serenity.
For any information or to make an appointment, patients and their loved ones can contact the Point Ligue de Beaune directly. Because when it comes to cancer, no one should be left alone.
