She dreamed of it, she did it: this Saturday, Marion Norbert Riberolle dominated the Belgian cyclo-cross championship and won the right to wear the tricolor jersey for a year in the plowed races.
Five years after her title of French champion, the Dottignienne, who has since become a naturalized Belgian, beat Laura Verdonschot and Julie Brouwers. She succeeds Sanne Cant, absent and future retiree, who dominated the discipline for 15 years in Belgium.
This Saturday, on the Zolder circuit, the resident of Crelan-Corendon went through all the emotions. In fact, at the first turn, she had to dismount, forcing her to go through the mechanics station. The 26-year-old runner then engaged in a chase to get back to the front of the race.
Once the junction was made, she took control and never let go and won comfortably. U23 world champion in 2020, the native of Troyes achieved with this title of Belgian champion a goal that she had set for herself a few years ago.
She will still compete in the world championships at the end of January near Liévin, in the North of France. But first, she will be able to show off her new black-yellow-red jersey. “It feels very strange to succeed Sanne Cant and see her with another jersey. I didn’t panic despite what happened at the start and I remained calm. I’m very happy and tonight, place at the chip shop, which I have been waiting for a month,” she explained, all smiles.
