The American scientific journal The Lancetanalyzed 93 European cities: a third of the 6,700 premature deaths attributed to heat in 2015 in these cities could have been avoided by increasing the number of trees by 30%.

Benefits already proven

To concretely protect its residents and improve their health, in Saint-Ouen la Ville:

  • doubles its surface area of ​​green spaces by 2030 from 16 hectares to 31 hectares with the planting of 3,500 trees and shrubs and the creation of 10 parks in addition to the existing 12.
  • perpetuates, redevelops and protects existing spaces which shelter fauna and flora such as the Jardin Guinot or the Impasse Juif;
  • massively greens its squares like Place de la République which now has 3,440 trees and shrubs planted and 600 meters of cycle paths; the revegetation of Cours des Lavandières, Place Payret, Place Debain (during 2025);
  • Created 6 hectares of green spaces in the future Athletes’ Village, the size of the Stade de France;
  • Installs 280 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the Jean de la school to supply it with energy but also transfer part of the energy to power the Auguste-Delaune swimming pool;
  • Increase the number of Vélib’ stations with the creation of three new stations by 2025-2026, which will complement the 8 stations opened since 2020, and the creation of new bicycle parking spaces in all neighborhoods. The City has doubled the number of bicycle parking spaces between 2020 and 2024.

As a reminder, in 2020, the City had 800 meters of cycle paths and 0 Vélib’ stations. Today it has 10 km of cycle paths and 8 Velib’ stations which will be 12 by 2026. The City has also just increased to 30km/h to facilitate soft mobility, reduce CO2 emissions and ease the sharing of transport. public space.
