Data published by Public Health France for the first week of 2025 (from December 30, 2024 to January 5, 2025) highlight rapid progression of the disease.
The network of sentinel doctors reports 500 cases clinically suggestive of influenza over the past week, compared to an average of 410 cas the previous four weeks. Since the start of the epidemic in December 2024, 1 160 cas were recorded in community medicine, which confirms a worrying epidemic dynamic.
Emergency services are also experiencing a significant increase in workload. 40 trips to the emergency room for influenza-like illness were recorded last week, a figure significantly higher than the average of 14 cases observed in previous weeks.
Hospitalizations follow this trend with 6 admissions after going to the emergency room, compared to an average of 3 previously. Since the start of reinforced surveillance (October 2024), three serious cases have required intensive care, although no deaths have been reported so far.
A predominantly type A virus
Virological surveillance reveals a dominant circulation of type A influenza, with a positivity rate of samples reaching 21 % in week 2025-01, compared to an average of 10% in previous weeks.
Faced with this situation, health authorities emphasize the importance of vaccination against influenza, particularly for populations at risk, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from comorbidities. The vaccination campaign in Guadeloupe continues until January 31, 2025.
Barrier gestures, such as wearing a mask in the event of symptoms, washing hands, and ventilating enclosed spaces, are strongly recommended to limit the spread of the virus.
