Between 15 to 20% additional risk of myocardial infarction between Christmas and New Year's Day are observed according to the American association American Heart Association.
These data were cross-referenced by a Swedish study which studied the records of more than 280,000 patients admitted to hospital.
THE heart attacks would increase, for example, to this period of 37%particularly on December 24 with a peak at 10 p.m. and most often among people aged over 75 and those with diabetes or a history of cardiovascular disease.
Several factors involved
Several factors would be involved. First of all, the stress that this period can induce, the race for gifts and the race for food.
During this period, the body is also put under severe strain. We eat more fat, we overeat more and we drink more alcohol.
To this is added the shift in bedtimes and the nights sometimes much shorter. a cocktail that can be much more dangerous. These aggravating factors combine above all with already vulnerable terrain.
During the holidays, people suffering from heart attack symptoms also tend to delay the time when they consult.
