Many of us turn to tap water to hydrate ourselves. It is a simple but above all economical solution. In fact, you no longer need to break the bank to buy bottles regularly because you just have to put them in yourself. However, the French who consume it are not not immune to unpleasant surprises!
An investigation into tap water
Many associations ensure the well-being of French people every day in their consumption patterns. The Commission for Independent Research and Information on Radioactivity is notably one of those most involved in this cause. The latter also carried out an analysis on tap water recently. An investigation which then aimed to determine the purity of the liquid upon arrival at consumers.
Unfortunately, the results are not favorable! Indeed, tap water would be the victim of contamination with a radioactive element. This is tritium, a product which comes mainly from waste from the nuclear industry. This compound is therefore found in the ground and leaves traces in the water despite the different treatments it undergoes before arriving in our homes!

Of course, we are already exposed to tritium from natural sources. But the one that contaminates tap water follows human action. The rates are therefore more important and dangerous for the consumers who are exposed to it! They come from gaseous and liquid discharges from factories. And without us knowing it, this can have serious consequences for our health.
What do the standards say?
Exposure to tritium is normal to some extent. It would then not be at all dangerous for health. But for this contamination of tap water, it can be a risk for fragile people. The authorities indicate that the harmless rate of this element is 2 Bq/l. But several regions have rates significantly higher than that! Enough to represent a risk for the French population.
After inspection, contaminated tap water represents a danger for more than 16 million French people. Indeed, the phenomenon is not limited to a single region. The alert has also been launched for several months now so that the French can pay attention to their consumption.
It is important to note that 4000 municipalities have not yet been the subject of a study regarding tap water. The French must therefore exercise real caution to avoid suffering from contamination.

Where are tap water unsafe?
Tap water is unsafe in more than 2,300 communities. Rates vary from area to area, which should alert consumers. Know, for example, that the inhabitants of the Paris Region, the Loire Valley, the Rhône Valley or even the Garonne Valley and Vienne present significant risks.
At the Côte d’Or, 77 communes are the most affected by this contamination of tap water. In fact, discharges containing tritium are very significant. Consumers will therefore have to pay attention to this!
