Flu, bronchiolitis… some tips to avoid getting sick before the holidays?

While we have been in the epidemic phase for flu and bronchiolitis in for a few days now, some advice to avoid getting sick is welcome.

Interviewed by the Actu.fr site, Professor Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist and director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva, offers some ideas.

Ventilation

The specialist advises ventilate the premises well in which we evolve, whether at home or at work.

If these spaces are not sufficiently ventilated, it is recommended to wear a protective maskpreferably FFP2.

Vaccination

For the epidemiologist, the best formula is to have an up-to-date vaccination schedule. He explains that the flu vaccine is “very effective against severe forms of these infections”.

Last week we asked for your favorite cold solutions. Some of you talked about what you do for prevention.

A resident told us in particular that he takes “a sea bath every morning” before drinking his coffee.

Barrier gestures

If they are useful all year round, the health insurance magazine explains that they are especially useful in winter.

It is therefore advisable to:

wash your hands after going to the toilet, after coughing or sneezing, after blowing your nose, after taking public transport, when returning home after each outing, before caring for a baby and before preparing meals.

Other good reflexes

To protect yourself from the cold, the specialist magazine advises:
– maintain the interior temperature of the accommodation at 19 degrees
– limit groupings
– store each toothbrush separately and do not lend them
– avoid sharing cutlery and towels
– carefully clean frequently used surfaces such as door handles and switches.

Finally, do physical activity30 to 40 minutes three times a week, and sleep at least eight hours a night is recommended to better defend yourself against attacks.
