As part of the end-of-year celebrations, theEFS and theChildren Cancers Health association d’ are calling on the people of Hérault to offer a rare and precious gift by donating their blood. The two partners joined forces to jointly carry out this campaign entitled “ December Solidarity » and which extends from December 16 to 29 with collections organized throughout the department.

36% of blood products against cancer

“The EFS undertakes to pay 1€ to the Enfants Cancers Santé association for each donor who comes to a collection”, specifies Laurent BardiauxDirector of EFS Occitanie: “Thus, during this holiday period, each blood donation will count double”. The EFS adds that this partnership and this unique operation make sense: “ 36% “blood products delivered each year help cancer patients… It is therefore natural that EFS Occitanie has joined forces with Enfants Cancers Santé to help reduce the disease.”

The numbers : for each donor recorded in one of the 13 donation centers or 100 collection points, the EFS will donate €1 to the association

Medical research: “a big help”

For its part, the Children Cancers association confirms that the final collection will then be entirely donated to research institutes for the development of new care protocols in the treatment of pediatric cancers. Professor Anne Laprie, Radiotherapist Oncologist specializing in pediatric oncology, who conducts research on childhood brain tumors”, testifies to the importance of the funds raised: “Thanks to donations, the association supported the work of my team, carried out in collaboration with all radiotherapist oncologists in . This financial contribution made it possible to prepare a project which will use AI to increase the understanding of the mechanisms of relapse of this disease… It is therefore a great help which is provided to our research theme on brain tumors of the child “.

1000 donations/day in Occitanie

In France, nearly 10,000 donors must give blood every day to enable the EFS to maintain a sufficient stock to ensure self-sufficiency in blood products throughout the year. “In the Occitanie region, no less than 1,000 donations per day are necessary to meet the needs of patients,” underlines Laurent Bardiaux for whom the progress of this special operation in the middle of the end-of-year celebrations is not due to chance.

“During this period, in fact, blood reserves are often fragile. Between going on vacation, festivals and winter illnesses, collection objectives are more difficult to achieve… By joining forces with Enfants Cancers Santé, we wish to mobilize the citizens of the Occitanie region and convey a message of hope for children suffering from cancer. »
