These coffee capsules sold in supermarkets are the worst for your health, according to 60 million consumers

After analyzing the composition of around fifteen coffee capsules sold in supermarkets, 60 Million Consumers detected the presence of toxic ingredients in some of them. Here is the one with the worst composition, the most toxic for health.

Antioxidant, stimulating and low in calories, coffee is an interesting drink for the body if it is not consumed in excess. Indeed, according to some experts, too much coffee consumption could accelerate the aging of the skin but also boost fat storage. If it is therefore essential to drink the right dose of coffee every day, it is also interesting to look at its composition.

This is why the magazine 60 Millions de consommateurs was interested in the composition of coffee capsules sold in supermarkets. The jury of testers analyzed 18 coffee capsules to identify possible traces of toxic ingredients, such as pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) or even acrylamide aromatic hydrocarbons. According to the ranking established by the magazine's editorial team, the supermarket coffee capsule which obtains the lowest score is that of the Carte Noire brand with 10.5/20. These are the Carte Noire pods – Organic Espresso 100% arabica. Journalist Patricia Chairopoulos explains on RTL that this coffee is too rich in PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, natural constituents of coal and oil, some of which are classified as carcinogenic) and that it presents a little more potentially carcinogenic residue than those of other brands.

Conversely, the coffee capsules which obtain the best rating according to the magazine are those of walking Auchan bio with 18/20. They display a 100% green score and are therefore guaranteed without pesticides, acrylamide or PAHs.

Choose capsules containing only 100% pure coffeeideally of the Arabica type, known for its refined aromas and moderate caffeine level. Avoid those mentioning added oils, artificial flavors or sugars, which can alter the natural flavor and quality of the coffee. Capsules from organic farming are generally a good choice, as they guarantee cultivation without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Finally, pay attention to where the coffee comes from : labels like “Fair Trade” or “Rainforest Alliance” not only ensure environmentally friendly production, but also support local agricultural communities.

Opt for capsules compatible with your machine, and preferably biodegradable or recyclables to reduce environmental impact. If you are a fan of taste variations, explore ranges offering an intensity adapted to your preferences, as well as precise aromatic profiles (fruity, spicy or chocolate notes). Information on geographical origin (Ethiopia, Colombia, etc.) also allows you to choose according to your tastes.
