A screening bus for vision diseases will be present in from November 26 to 28

The Bus of the National Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (Unadev) will be present, Place des Halles, in , from Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 November, for free screening of vision diseases and mainly blinding diseases linked to vision. ‘age.

Since 2011, there has been a national information, awareness and screening campaign for glaucoma. And for good reason, the national union of the blind and visually impaired (unadev), the French Ophthalmology Society, the French Glaucoma Society and the French Glaucoma Association are aware of the risks of late screening. Recently, l’Undev expanded its campaign to the main age-related blinding diseases.

Thanks to a mobile unit called Bus from Unadevthe association travels across to meet the public and thus allow as many people as possible to know about diseases and to be screened. In Beauvais, this will take place from November 26 to 28 on the Place des Halles.

Free, quick and painless screening

The screening, which lasts a few minutes, is aimed at people aged 40 and over. It is carried out in the ophthalmological office of Bus from Unadev with an ophthalmologist.

Three exams painless procedures are carried out: a measurement of the intraocular pressure and the thickness of the cornea to assess the pressure inside the eye, a photograph of the fundus without dilation to check the condition of the retina and the optic nerve, and a slit lamp examination which allows a better appreciation of the anterior part of the eye.

Depending on the screening result, people will be reassured or referred to their ophthalmologist for a consultation and a more complete assessment.

3 million French people affected by visual disability

Main causes of avoidable blindness in France, AMD (age-related macular degeneration), glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are serious eye diseases because their consequences are irreversible.

A large number of people affected are unaware of this. Better knowledge of diseases and their risk factors is indispensable to raise public awareness of the great value of early detection. The earlier diseases are detected, the sooner treatment will be put in place to slow down or even slow down the progression towards blindness.

As for the cataract which is one of the main causes of low vision in France, a simple surgical procedure can cure and restore normal vision.
