6,000 high school students from Nouvelle-Aquitaine spoke about their health

The survey is instructive regarding the health of adolescents and young adults in New Aquitaine. Published recently by the Regional Health Observatory, a study carried out at the end of 2022 among 6,000 high school students is interested in their nutrition. Various themes are covered: physical activity, the types of food products consumed, behaviors and specific diets (to lose weight, to gain weight or for medical reasons).

“More than one in ten high school students are overweight”

According to the data collected, less than four out of ten students say they do at least 4 to 6 hours of physical activity per week it is specified in the summary. More than one in ten high school students are overweight, based on self-reported weight and height.

Based on the Body Mass Index calculated from students’ declarations, more than 7 out of 10 students have a normal build. However, 13.5% of them are overweight (overweight or obese) with a higher proportion for boys. .

More than four out of ten students consume sweet products at least five days a week and more than a third of students have disturbed eating habits, more often for girls lets this summary appear. Nearly one in five students are affected by a diet, but the reasons given are different depending on the sex: thus, 10.6% of boys follow a diet to gain weight (2.8% of girls), while 13.1% of girls follow a diet to lose weight (5.3% boys). Less than 3% diet for other reasons: medical, beliefs .

Physical activity levels are lower among girls and in the professional sector. In turn, it is also in this sector that the prevalence of weighted overweight is highest. This increases according to the perceived financial situation of the family.
