“We wanted to tackle the issue of myopia head on,” explains Fanny Coulon, Health Director of the city of Limoges. “We have partnered with the ophthalmology department of the CHU in order to actively participate in Myopia Week which takes place from November 18 to 24, 2024.”

Tuesday November 19, a conference on myopia was organized at the municipal media library, aimed at the general public and health professionals. Professor Pierre-Yves Robert, head of the ophthalmology department at the CHU, Dr Maxime Rocher, hospital practitioner at the CHU, Théa Bouteille, orthoptist, and Albane Tessier, optician specializing in low vision, hosted the conference for nearly 1h30 at which attended by around twenty people.

Albane Tessier came away delighted with this information evening: “ The discussions were rich. Although time passed very quickly, we had time to talk about all aspects of myopia issues and answer questions from the audience. It was made up of very short-sighted people who were looking for information related to their disability, citizens fond of information on health in general, but also orthoptics students, very interested in the preventive aspect.

We were able to talk about the prevalence, medical complications, prevention, the importance of monitoring young patients, the different techniques for curbing myopia, the right choice of optical equipment, but also budget and reimbursement. ».

The next day, a full day of screening was organized at the Limoges University Hospital.
