the alarm bell is ringing

General mobilization is decreed this Tuesday (November 19). The Regional Health Agency, Santé Publique , the association of mayors and the medical community are sounding the alarm in the face of the dengue epidemic started in Guadeloupe.

It is the DENV3 serotype of the virus, which has not circulated in our territory for the last 20 years, which was detected.

The ARS took stock this Tuesday and wishes to draw everyone’s attention to the risks of a serious form or a high number of cases to be expected if resolute control or prevention actions are not followed.

A worrying epidemic

The Professor Patrick Portecop, head of the SAMU department at Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospitalbelieves that the situation concerns the services.

Even if dengue fever is a disease that Guadeloupeans are familiar with, the fact that serotype 3 has not circulated for 20 years, and that the young population is not immune, makes us fear many cases to be expected in our services. Currently, we already have an increase in calls for clinical pictures entirely compatible with dengue fever.

Muriel Aloph, head of the health and safety department for the home environment at the Regional Health Agencybelieves that there needs to be real awareness and recalls the actions to be taken to fight against the spread of dengue.
