Flu: the French are getting less vaccinated this fall: News

One month after the launch of the flu vaccination campaign, just under 6 million French people have received a dose. This is much less than last year, which was nevertheless “already a bad year” according to Philippe Besset, president of the Federation of Community Pharmacists.

“We have to react.” Philippe Besset, president of the Federation of Community Pharmacists, was invited to speak on RTL this Friday, November 15, on the flu vaccination campaign, which began in mid-October. The least we can say is that this campaign is slipping. At this stage, just under 6 million French people have received their injection. This is 800,000 fewer than last year. And yet, “2023 was already a bad year”.

“We are going to be worse than last year, by around 12% for the moment. We have to react”warned Philippe Besset, who underlines the importance of this vaccine, especially for vulnerable people.

The flu vaccine is strongly recommended for immunocompromised individuals, those suffering from diabetes, chronic or respiratory illnesses, regardless of age, as well as for people aged over 65. “I think it’s a message that needs to be hammered home and repeated day after day”added Philippe Besset.

43% of French people no longer wear a mask even if they have symptoms

Vaccination for vulnerable people is all the more important as a large proportion of French people have completely abandoned barrier gestures, which were one of the great lessons of the coronavirus epidemic. According to a CoviPrev survey published in mid-October, 43% of French people assume they no longer wear masks even if they have symptoms of winter viruses, whether flu or Covid-19.
