Since 2018, the Chaumont firefighters have organized a football tournament for Movember, an event to raise awareness of male illnesses. This edition took place Saturday, November 2 at the Lemouton gymnasium.
After Pink October for women, it’s time for Movember for men. In order to raise awareness of male diseases, such as prostate or testicular cancers, and to raise funds, the Chaumont firefighters organized a football tournament with fire stations from across the department.
“We brought together fourteen teams from all over Haute-Marne, mainly firefighters. We also had a police team and one with emergency workers from the Chaumont hospital center,” explains Lieutenant Mathieu Logerot, firefighter in the city-prefecture.
Among the barracks represented: Bourdons-sur-Rognon, Châteauvillain, Chalindrey, Wassy, Langres, Bourbonne-les-Bains and Montiers-en-Der. In total, around a hundred participants gathered for this charity tournament.
Funds donated to the Georges-François Leclerc Center in Dijon
The objective of the day is, of course, to have a moment of conviviality and competitiveness, but also to raise funds for a good cause. “Last year, we raised €1,500. The money is then donated to the CGFL (Georges-François-Leclerc regional cancer center, editor’s note) in Dijon,” explains Mathieu Logerot.
After an intense Saturday, it was finally the Chaumont team which won the tournament with 2 goals to 0 against Châteauvillain. At the end of the day, the accounts were not yet final, but the firefighters estimate they had collected nearly €1,200. Whether firefighters, police officers or emergency workers, all have, through this tournament, proven their commitment to helping their neighbors.
