The year 1994 marked a real turning point in the prevention of breast cancer, the most common and deadliest in women.
That year, a national breast cancer screening program, free for all women aged 50 and over, was established. Five months later, the Estée Lauder group, with the monthly magazine Marie-Claire, imported “Octobre Rose” into France. This awareness month aims to raise funds for research and above all encourage women to get tested.
Over the years, this mobilization has met with national enthusiasm and has especially drawn attention to breast cancer.
But 30 years later, where are we?
Are women getting screened more? Has mortality linked to this cancer decreased?
In this episode enriched with the archives of Europe 1, Emmanuel Ricard, spokesperson for the league against cancer, takes stock of these 30 years of awareness raising.
