a brand new training concept dedicated to the care of the elderly

All professions in the field of aging require specific know-how and interpersonal skills which can only be acquired through professional experience; practice therefore.

Indeed, this allows you to better understand – and understand – the profession but also to reflect on your practices with your peers.

Dedicated to the initial and continuing training of all actors having a prevention role and/or a role in the care of the elderly SimuSenior aims to meet training needs according to precise educational principles and the motto “Never the first time on the patient “.

« It is a doctrine widely used in medicine and during paramedical studies for all technical procedures such as blood tests, lumbar punctures. » underlines Professor Marie Laurent, head of the geriatrics department of the Henri-Mondor and Albert-Chenevier AP-HP hospitals.

And to add: “ this should also be the case for less technical but essential acts such as communication with patients because this is what patients and their families remember at the end of a consultation, a hospitalization or the visit of their loved one in EHPAD. Interprofessional communication is essential for those working with elderly people ».

Before continuing: “ the use of simulators in our SimuSenior space can also help to become aware of the difficulties and disabilities that elderly people may experience. It must be accompanied by a message of prevention: it is possible to do things at any age to limit the disabilities linked to aging. »

More concretely, this new concept brings together three distinct spaces: a consultation room, a hospital room and an elderly person’s home.

Within these spaces, students can simulate care, gestures, etc. They are equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual systems, an articulated mannequin and a high-fidelity mannequin of an elderly person.

« The articulated mannequin is highly recommended for training on technical gestures such as inserting a probe. The high-fidelity mannequin, on the other hand, perfectly reproduces the appearance of an elderly person in terms of aesthetics, anatomy, touch sensation, weight and center of gravity.

It is perfect for immersing yourself in a larger-than-life scenario including, for example, the fall of an elderly person » adds, Alexandra Laurent, educational engineer at the Campus des Métiers des
Qualifications d’Excellence.

This equipment allows students to take turns in observation, then in experimentation. A debriefing room allows you to discuss observed and experienced practices.

The SimuSenior space is located in Créteil within the Albert-Chenevier AP-HP hospital (GHU AP-HP Hôpitaux Universitaires Henri-Mondor), in close proximity to the healthcare services.
