Researchers demonstrate cause-and-effect link between microplastics and bladder cancer

POLLUTION – Australian researchers have carried out a large study to try to determine the involvement of plastic microparticles in cases of bladder cancer

Do microplastics cause bladder cancer? This is the question that researchers at Bond University (Australia) asked themselves after having identified numerous particles in the urinary tract of several patients. Their study on this subject was published at the end of August in the journal Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiologyreports Actu.fr.

The scientists conducted a meta-analysis of six previous studies and found that microplastics were found in 54% of urine samples, 70% of kidney samples and 68% of breast cancer cases. the bladder identified in this work. But it was still necessary to prove the cause and effect link between the two.

Microplastics in our organs

The researchers then delved into a dozen studies on the effects of plastic particles on the urinary tract, proving that they caused toxicity and inflammation, and therefore a reduction in the lifespan of cells. Other disruptions have also been highlighted.

Australian researchers are therefore sounding the alarm about the role of microplastics in cases of cancer. For them, we must act quickly and limit this pollution which reaches the (…) Read more on 20minutes
