. Will the RD 673 mobile radar be replaced? | Weekly 39

The mobile radar has been blind for several weeks.

It has now been many weeks since the mobile radar installed on the D 673, between the Carrefour de la Côte d’Or and the Zone des Epenottes, was put “unable to… fine” by a white paint tag, affixed to the optics. Making him, in fact, blind.
More surprising, nothing seems to be, or to have been, undertaken since this summer to work on its cleaning, its restoration or its replacement.
At least, no response was given to us by the competent services in this regard.
Nor even as to whether an investigation would have been opened on this subject…
Let us remember, however, that “deterioration of a radar can endanger other road users and is very expensive for the community” according to the government Road Safety website which specifies that the price varies “between 500 euros for a broken window , at 200,000 euros for the complete replacement of a latest generation radar.
While knowing that the financing of the deployment and maintenance of automatic control and sanction systems comes from the proceeds of speed camera fines…

What are the sanctions incurred by those responsible for damaging radars?

Radar damage is an offense covered by articles 322-1 and article 322-2 of the penal code.
For having displayed stickers, made graffiti, obscured or covered the windows of a radar: the author of the damage risks up to 15,000 euros fine and a community sentence.
For having destroyed or damaged a radar (fire, theft, explosion): the author of the damage risks up to 75,000 euros fine and 5 years of imprisonment.
If the action was carried out by a group of people, or a masked individual, the penalty is even heavier: up to 100,000 euros fine and 7 years of imprisonment!
