Increase in Covid-19 cases: the fall vaccination campaign begins on October 15, 2024

As revealed in the latest situation update published by Public Health , the circulation of Covid-19 seems to be accelerating almost everywhere in France. In this context calling for the greatest vigilance, Health Insurance recalls, after announcing the upcoming opening of the new vaccination campaign, the need to respect barrier gestures.

Covid-19: the vaccination campaign begins on October 15

According to the latest data published by Public Health France, the circulation of Covid-19, and more precisely of its “JN.1” variant, seems to be intensifying everywhere in the territory. The evolution of this trend, mainly driven by adults, and more particularly by those aged 65 and over, will be carefully scrutinized over the coming weeks.

To prevent this relative upsurge from getting worse, Health Insurance and Public Health France announce, on their website, that the new autumn vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will begin on October 15. This having started on September 10 for Mayotte.

In accordance with the recommendations of the High Authority of Health (HAS), this new campaign will primarily target people most at risk of serious illness, namely:

  • immunocompromised people;
  • pregnant women;
  • people with comorbidities having a higher risk of serious form of the disease (arterial hypertension, heart, vascular, kidney, pulmonary problems, diabetes, obesity, cancers).

Important

The Covid-19 vaccination obligation, intended for certain categories of employees, has no longer been in force since May 15, 2023.

Note, as a reminder, that the vaccination schedule was simplified in 2023. Since then, vaccination only requires a single dose of vaccine, regardless of the patient’s vaccination history. In fact, the notions of “primary vaccination” and “booster” are no longer relevant. A period of 6 months must nevertheless be observed between the new vaccine injection and the previous or last Covid-19 infection.

Good to know

Vaccination is 100% covered. A vaccination against influenza and Covid-19 can be carried out on the same day on two different injection areas (e.g. on both arms).

Occupational doctors, medical colleagues, interns and occupational health nurses can vaccinate employees. To find a vaccination location, go to: www.sante.fr .

Covid-19: the need to respect barrier gestures

Since March 2022 and the lifting of the health protocol in companies, only the rules relating to life in companies, outside of an epidemic situation, apply in the workplace.

As a result, it is no longer necessary for an employee to self-isolate or wear a mask in the event of a positive test, contact with a positive person or as soon as symptoms appear.

Note the

Wearing a mask nevertheless remains enforceable in certain places by the head of the establishment or service (e.g. health and medico-social establishments, pharmacies, places where health professionals practice).

In line with the benchmark guide intended to prevent the risks of Covid-19 contamination, Health Insurance and Public Health France remind that it remains strongly recommended to scrupulously apply barrier gestures. What commands vaccinated and unvaccinated people:

  • to wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, cough and sneeze into your elbow;
  • to avoid contact with vulnerable people;
  • to encourage teleworking;
  • to inform people with whom you were in contact when you were contagious.

Rappel

Since February 1, 2023, a positive test for Covid-19 no longer allows you to benefit from an exceptional work stoppage. It is up to your treating physician alone to assess the justification.
