The first group of bikes left at 9:30 a.m. There are generally around a hundred per platoon. “Among them there is a leader and a flying supervisor,” specifies Hervé Ribon, president of Metz à vélo, a historic partner of the event. It has existed for six years but this edition is the first for which walking tours have been organized, “to allow older people to participate,” adds a supervisor.
A charitable action
“The money collected will be given to the Metz Hospital Foundation,” explains Catherine Bertrand, secretary of the Rose and Roll association. The race was also introduced by a speech by Paul Arker, president of the foundation. “This cash will allow the improvement of the living conditions of sick women,” continues Catherine Bertrand, sitting behind her computer, taking care of noting the registrations. For adults, participation costs twelve euros and six euros for children.
A departure every fifteen minutes is announced on the microphone against a background of American rock music from the 1970s, the echo of which resonates on the Moselle. The president of the organizing association is very satisfied with “this beautiful weather, the great success of the walk with more than a hundred registrations”.
