After Ivory Coast, another West African country is now affected by monkeypox (Mpox).

Indeed, Ghana recorded its first positive case of the disease. On Thursday October 3, 2025, the country’s health authorities confirmed the first case of monkeypox on Ghanaian territory.

In a press release, the Ghanaian health services said that this first case was detected in the Bia region located in the north-western province of the country.

According to the information reported, the infected patient is a 15-year-old teenager. He had a history of rash, fever, and general body aches in hospital.

“The suspected case was isolated in accordance with Mpox management protocols. Twenty-five contacts of the case have been identified and are currently being monitored. The patient has since been released and is in stable condition.”health authorities said in the press release.

However, the note clarified that the infected patient had not traveled in the past 21 days and had not had sexual relations with a potentially infectious person during this period.

Apart from this case, health officials also said that 230 suspected cases of monkeypox have been identified in 88 districts of Ghana.

According to a latest report from the Africa CDC health agency dated October 3, 2024, Africa has recorded 866 deaths due to monkeypox since the start of the year.

The African health agency says that “the epidemic is not under control” on the African continent.

Note that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one of the countries most affected by this disease on the continent.
