: world animal day

As part of World Animal Day tomorrow October 4the -La Seyne-sur-mer Intercommunal Hospital Center places emphasis on animal mediation actions organized in several CHITS departments: for brain-damaged patients, for young patients with autistic disorders and for senior patients.

– In the Coma awakening department of the George Sand hospital in La Seyne-sur-mer, animal mediation has been organized for almost two years every Tuesday at the end of the day thanks to the Blouses Roses association in connection with the The Cavaliers du coeur association. » The sessions are eagerly awaited. The end of the day is always a source of anxiety for our patients. Soothing, work on memory and attention, awakening the senses with caresses, improvement in vigilance, cognitive and motor re-education, calming, work on coordination of balance, planning of fine motor skills, improvement of self-esteem in the face of disability, reduction of depression, the benefits are numerous. The service has also recently been working with Haras D’Obtree in La Crau, which offers equine therapy/hippotherapy sessions. Beyond the cognitive and emotional aspect, the horse’s movement simulates human walking, which stimulates the motor areas of the brain-injured patient like a walking robot.

– The teams from the “Le Mammisi” day hospital, which welcomes children with autistic disorders, also work with the Haras D’Obtree located in La Crau as part of equine therapy sessions. Equine therapeutic mediation makes it possible to carry out work around motor skills (body axis, dissociation of the belts, basic and action tone, motor coordination) but also sensoriality. Equine therapy is also a way to develop children’s autonomy and promote social interactions both in the peer group, in the relationship with adults and with animals.

At the EHPAD of the Georges Clémenceau Hospital of CHITS, animal mediation is in fact one of the activities offered to residents. The establishment is in partnership with the CALI’nous association (dogs, cats, hamsters, turtles, etc.) which operates every two weeks and with the Lamas association, which organizes Lama visits occasionally during the year. .
