When Parkinson’s disease is mentioned, we instinctively think of the tremors it inflicts. And also to these few personalities who have been affected (Mohamed Ali, John Paul II) or who fight against her, like the actor Michael J. Fox who created his own foundation.

But in reality, we know very little about this incurable neurodegenerative pathology. In an attempt to better understand it, the co-director Joseph Coriat, himself touched, went to meet witnesses who live with this affection.

This is an opportunity for him, first of all, to draw up an inventory, while has 270,000 cases, and that 25,000 individuals are diagnosed each year.

It would also be wrong to think that tremors are the only symptoms, because Parkinson causes multiple: muscle rigidity, slowness, loss of fine motor skills, speech disorders, sleep and digestion, depression. The list is far from exhaustive.

We do not know very well either which triggers the disease, even if we highlight today genetic predispositions and environmental factors (in France, it is recognized as an occupational disease since 2012 for farmers exposed to pesticides).

The fact remains that the different profiles encountered make it possible to better understand the way in which daily is organized with Parkinson, while research progresses and advances, especially on the side of neurosurgery, offer some of “repeat”.

A debate led by Marina Carrère d’Encausse will follow the broadcast of this film that can be described as public utility.
