Eating a healthy diet is essential to reducing the risk of developing cancer. In fact, what we ingest directly influences the biological processes that can promote or inhibit the formation of tumors, according to official sources from the Government of Puebla.
Currently, cancer rates continue to rise, especially among young peoplewhich is why oncology dietitian Nichole Andrews shared on her social media three essential habits to eliminate to significantly reduce the risk of contracting this deadly disease.
Its recommendations are based on scientific studies, which has allowed it to bring together a large audience seeking to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Three habits to eliminate to reduce the risk of cancer
1. No processed meats
Pour Andrews, The first habit to give up is the consumption of processed meats. All processed meat products, such as sausages, bacon or dried meats, have been classified as carcinogenic to humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) since 2015.
According to her, “Processed meats contain chemicals that damage intestinal cells”which increases the risk of colorectal cancer. It is therefore best to choose fresh meats, fish, legumes or tofu.
2. Eliminate alcohol consumption
Then, it is imperative to completely stop drinking alcoholbecause there is a direct link with the risk of developing at least seven types of cancer, including those of the breast, liver, intestine and throat. Natural alternatives, such as water with fresh fruit, herbal teas or drinks without added sugars, can be considered.
-3. Control the use of supplements
According to the specialist, excessive consumption of supplements may be risky in connection with cancer. Although many consider them a good option to improve health, inappropriate use or without medical supervision can lead to side effects: “Don’t look for supplements to reduce cancer risk, because in reality, high doses can increase this risk”she warns.
