The Pink Ribbon prizes, awarded by the eponymous association, reward innovative projects in fundamental, translational and clinical research relating to breast cancer each year. During the ceremony of the 21e edition this Thursday, January 16, ten winners were distinguished, including an Alsatian in the “Future Prize” category, in the person of Dr Gertraud Orend.

Inserm research director, the latter is developing with her team at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology a peptide which helps limit metastases, the main causes of death linked to breast cancer. The first encouraging results could lead to a new effective treatment against severe forms of the disease. More than a simple distinction, the prize received by the researcher is accompanied by an endowment of €225,000 to enable her to continue her research.
