To avoid having to suffer a new epidemic like that of 2006, the municipality of Sainte-Suzanne has decided to preventively fight against the proliferation of mosquitoes.

The first axis concerns the preventive fight against larval breeding sites by municipal services. Tourist places (the Bocage, the waterfalls of delights, Niagara and Paul and Virginie, or the Lighthouse) and cemeteries will be covered every week. It will be the same for the ravines bordered by groups of houses. The agents will first inspect the premises before carrying out any treatment.

The maintenance of green spaces will also be reinforced. Sites open to the public such as school and nursery grounds, stadiums and places of leisure will have their lawns mowed and trees pruned twice a month and within a radius of 150 meters around the sites. The gutters are also inspected and emptied if necessary.

Every month, an exceptional operation called Met’Propr is put in place. Individuals will be able to exceptionally get rid of their end-of-life vehicle (ELV), their batteries, their metal waste, furniture, their tires and other waste electrical and electronic equipment (D3E, household appliances among others). The number 0262 52 20 87 is made available to them to tell them when to take out this particular waste.

Fragile people who depend on CCAS will have specific help during the collection of waste planned according to the collection schedule set up by CINOR.

The last axis concerns the mobilization of the population and social actors. In schools, youth Wednesdays, recreational centers, senior youth associations, sports associations… everyone is made aware of how to adopt the right actions to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
