“We navigate by sight”: in pharmacies in the country of Morlaix, the flu vaccine is running out

“We have nothing left! Usually, we don’t have these problems. » Since Monday January 6, 2025, at the Léon pharmacy in Saint-Pol-de-Léon, flu vaccines have been missing. Started on October 15, the flu vaccination campaign is destined to end only on January 31. “We navigate by sight. We are in a shortage,” says a pharmacy technician, contacted this Saturday, January 11. “There will be orders,” she reassures, “but for the moment, we don’t even have a delivery time.” However, there is no shortage of demand.

“We have already vaccinated a lot this year, but we still have demand. I think it’s because people started it particularly late. » Same story at the Central pharmacy, in Morlaix. “We no longer have any, but there is no longer any particular need, we are reaching the end of the campaign. » A break that has lasted for well “a week”, at the Bretagne pharmacy, located in the Leclerc shopping mall, in Morlaix. “We no longer have any at all, neither at the wholesaler nor in the laboratory,” laments a preparer, contacted this Saturday morning. Just like at the Plouezoc’h pharmacy, where all vaccine stocks have been used up.

“We have about a hundred left”

A situation that the Prigent pharmacy in Landivisiau could have experienced. “We are part of the health reference group (which brings together 27 pharmacies, Editor’s note). So we help out between pharmacies,” notes one of its preparers. But to concede, however, that “we cannot order more from the wholesaler either”. An unusual problem for these pharmacies, accustomed to flu vaccination campaigns which are repeated from year to year.

“In other years, it’s rare that we have supply problems,” comments the technician at the Léon pharmacy. Of the six pharmacies in the country of Morlaix contacted, this Saturday, January 11 in the morning, only the Rosais pharmacy, in Plouescat, claims to be able to still offer the flu vaccine to this day. “We have about a hundred left. You have to believe that we saw it coming and had made reservations! », jokes the pharmacy assistant. Notice to latecomers: hurry up, this year it seems there won’t be something for everyone.
