While the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus continuous glucose sensor (CGC) will soon be available, our Diabète LAB conducted a survey in partnership with the Abbott laboratory to fully understand the sometimes complex relationship that develops between patients and their devices. medical.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus continuous glucose sensor (CGC) will soon be available for certain patients with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. This new medical device can also be prescribed to children from 2 years and it has the advantage of lasting longer, 15 days instead of 14.

The marketing of this device was an opportunity for the Diabète LAB of the French Diabetics Federation to examine the question of patients’ relationship to time in the management of their diabetes. Medical devices such as sensors or pumps provide numerous benefits in terms of safety, quality of life and mental load. However, they can also sometimes become a new source of stress in certain cases, and monitoring alerts continuously can in particular increase the mental load.

The Diabète LAB study carried out with 10 people with diabetes (including 9 with type 1 diabetes and one person with type 2 diabetes) highlights the rhythm imposed by life with diabetes, from the moment it begins. diagnosis. For patients, 3 stages of disease management are then put in place: the short term with daily management of the disease (diet, compliance with medical treatment); the medium term with follow-up appointments; and the long term with the prevention of complications.

After the diagnosis, each patient must, in their own way and according to the resources available to them, appropriate these rhythms and tame, as it were, their medical devices. Any technological change can disrupt the fragile balance, despite all its advantages.

We invite you to discover the testimonies collected by the Diabète LAB team during the study interviews: FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus: time to measure
